1. Please see requirements below: Take the TLC Driver Renewal Course The TLC Driver License Renewal Course is a new requirement for TLC Drivers with licenses expiring on or after January 1, 2022.
TLC-licensed drivers can only have ONE valid State Driver's License, thus if you have a secondary State DMV license, you must surrender it so you could receive credit for your renewal course. The State DMV License that drivers provide the school must coincide with the one TLC has on file. Please feel free to check if your information is up-to-date by visiting your TLC Portal at https://a156-nauf.nyc.gov/tlcup/default.aspx?
In the event your State Driver License does not match the one TLC has on file, you must email your driving abstract from your out-of-state license, and current DMV license to the EducationUnit at education_unit@tlc.nyc.gov and the Licensing Inquiries Division at licensingi@tlc.nyc.gov on the same email.
Licensees cannot take the renewal course more than 180 days after their license expiration date. Drivers are strongly encouraged to complete their requirements within 90 days of their expiration date so that they receive their new TLC Driver License on time.
Students who have TLC Driver Licenses past the final renewal date are not permitted to take the renewal class, and they must open a new application once their license is past the 180-day late renewal period.
2.Take a NYS DMV certified Defensive Driving Course if needed. We offer both in-person and online classes of the 6-hour Defensive Driving Course, which can reduce up to 4 points from your driving record.
3. Pay your renewal fee online using LARS at nyc.gov/lars.
4. Drug test. Each driver is required by the TLC to take a drug test 90 days before your TLC license expires. For more information, please visit the NYC TLC drug testing requirements page.
